The Malaysian Medical Association Wilayah Persekutuan (MMA WP) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Talk on 14 June 2025 at AC Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, bringing together members for a meaningful afternoon of academic exchange and association affairs.

CPD Talk: Bridging Science and Practice

The CPD session commenced with an insightful presentation by Dr Norasrina Ishak, Head of the Transfusion Medicine Unit and Clinical Research Centre at Hospital Shah Alam. Her talk, titled “Beyond Blood: The Evolving Science of Transfusion Medicine in the 21st Century,” explored the latest developments in transfusion medicine, with a strong emphasis on patient blood management strategies and innovations in clinical practice. Dr Norasrina highlighted the ongoing shift from a traditional, product-focused model to a more holistic, patient-centred approach, aimed at improving safety, efficacy, and clinical outcomes in transfusion services.

This was followed by Dr Nur Indah Ahmad, Senior Lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia and Deputy Coordinator of MyOHUN, who delivered a talk entitled “Insights from a Veterinarian to Medical Professionals: Zoonoses and One Health.” Dr Nur Indah shared valuable perspectives on the growing threats of emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases and emphasised the importance of the One Health approach in tackling these issues. Drawing from her experience in veterinary public health, she discussed the challenges in implementing One Health concepts. She advocated for enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration across medical, veterinary, and environmental sectors to address complex public health threats.

MMA WP AGM 2025

The AGM commenced at 6:00 PM, with an opening address by Dr Selvarajah a/l Sathaya, MMA Wilayah Chairman. The meeting proceeded with the presentation of the minutes and the Annual Report by the Honorary Secretary, Dr Eratha Krishnan Gobinadan, which were unanimously confirmed and adopted by members.

Subsequently, the Honorary Treasurer, Dr Gokilavani Sekarchandran, presented the Audited Financial Report, which was also adopted by the assembly.

The meeting continued with the Election of the new MMA Wilayah Committee for the 2025/2026 term, with over 50 members in attendance, reflecting strong member engagement. The election was conducted by Dr NP Krishnan and Dr Gunasagaran, who was appointed as the election officer.

Following the formal proceedings, members were treated to a dinner reception. As a token of appreciation, each MMA WP member received a 20-inch language bag (presumably a typo or reference requiring clarification), marking the evening with a gesture of gratitude.

MMA WP thank all members for their continued support and participation. MMA Wilayah remains committed to fostering medical excellence, leadership, and professional development in the Federal Territory.
