On 22 May 2025, the Federal Territories Health Department (JKWPKL&P) convened an interagency meeting on the prevention and control of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), bringing together key stakeholders at the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), Kuala Lumpur. Among the active participants was the Malaysian Medical Association Wilayah Persekutuan (MMAWP), reinforcing its ongoing commitment to public health partnerships and community disease prevention. MMAWP was represented by Dr Selvarajah a/l Sathaya, Chairman of MMA WP and Dr Manohar Bendiah (PPS Representative).
Purposeful Engagement on HFMD Control
The meeting aimed to strengthen cross-agency coordination in addressing the persistent threat of HFMD, particularly in urban areas such as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The discussions centred on recent outbreak trends, current public health interventions, and the need for integrated strategies to curb transmission, especially in childcare settings.
Participants reviewed a suite of educational materials the Ministry of Health developed, including HFMD awareness videos and hand hygiene tutorials. These resources were recommended for dissemination across various platforms to promote consistent and effective health messaging.
Collaborative Leadership for Community Health
MMA Wilayah Persekutuan welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with JKWPKL&P in this initiative, recognising the importance of medical professional engagement in shaping and supporting public health responses. By working together with local health authorities, MMAWP aims to contribute medical expertise, facilitate information dissemination, and support preventive outreach to healthcare providers and the wider community.
The meeting underscored the value of sustained collaboration between public agencies and professional bodies in managing communicable diseases. As urban populations grow and health challenges evolve, such partnerships will remain vital in safeguarding public health and ensuring coordinated, efficient responses to disease outbreaks.

Acknowledgement
MMA Wilayah Persekutuan appreciates JKWPKL&P for its leadership in organising this important engagement and looks forward to continued collaboration in public health initiatives.
