On 18 May 2025, a significant step towards interdisciplinary collaboration in Malaysian healthcare was taken with the successful hosting of the GP Track and Intraarticular Injection Workshop. The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Wilayah branch and the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) jointly organised this one-day event, which took place in conjunction with the MOA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) 2025.
Enhancing Primary Care Musculoskeletal Competence
Designed for general practitioners (GPs), the programme featured nine focused presentations by leading orthopaedic surgeons from across Malaysia. Key topics included the management of common musculoskeletal pain, recognising paediatric orthopaedic conditions, and the approach to osteoporosis in primary care—issues frequently encountered by GPs and often requiring timely referral and co-management.
The scientific sessions aimed to deepen understanding and reinforce the vital role GPs play in the early detection and management of orthopaedic conditions, thereby improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden on tertiary services.
Hands-On Learning in Intra-articular Injection Techniques
The afternoon segment featured a highly interactive intra-articular injection workshop, sponsored by Brego. Under the close supervision of expert orthopaedic clinicians, participating GPs practised key injection techniques essential for managing joint pain and inflammation, enhancing both their skillset and confidence in delivering evidence-based musculoskeletal care in primary settings.
Looking Forward
This inaugural collaboration was warmly received by attendees and organisers alike, signalling strong interest in ongoing professional development among GPs and the importance of cross-speciality partnerships. It sets a promising precedent for future joint educational initiatives aimed at narrowing the gap between primary and specialist care.
